So you’re getting married? Congratulations! Now starts all of the fun, but with so many decisions to be made we thought we'd share our frequently asked questions.



What’s been changed because of Covid 19?

During this time it is our aim to provide you with the same exceptional level of customer service whilst adhering to government guidelines in order to create a safe environment for our staff and brides. Buying your wedding dress should be a fun, memorable experience and it is important to us that our brides enjoy their experience at Opus. So whilst things may look a little different you will still find the same warmth, passion, kindness and expertise that Opus is renowned for. 


Our diary has been carefully scheduled to allow extra time for sanitising the salon, dressing area and gowns between appointments. Please assist us in this by arriving on time for your appointment as we will be unable to accommodate early arrivals or allow appointments to run over should you arrive after your appointment start time. 


We have introduced non contact temperature checks for all staff, brides and guests visiting the salon and have hand sanitising stations available throughout the salon and dressing room area. 


Prior to your appointment we will send you an up to date list of guidelines. As always please reach out if you have any questions, queries and concerns and we will be happy to help. 


Do I need to book an appointment?

Yes, we are strictly by appointment only. We don’t want to disappoint any of our brides so please do not visit without booking in advance as we are unable to accommodate any walk in appointments.

Is there a charge for appointments?

Like many luxury designer boutiques, we charge a consultation fee. This is in place due to high demand for appointments and to ensure we are able to offer you the best possible service. The fee for Opus Atelier new bride consultations is £50. During this appointment, you will receive exclusive use of the salon for you and your bridal party. Designer events and Trunk Show appointments are charged separately from standard new bride consultations.

How many people can I bring to my appointment?

To ensure the safety of our staff and brides at this time we can only admit two guests per bride for bridal consultation appointments. This allows us to practice safe social distancing within the salon. You are of course more than welcome to include other members of your bridal party virtually via FaceTime or Zoom so that they can still be part of your wedding dress experience.

When should I book my wedding dress appointment?

We advise you to start wedding dress shopping 12 months before your wedding date. This allows you time to choose your wedding dress without pressure and plenty of time to accommodate fittings and alterations before your wedding day. We can of course help you in a more limited time frame and have a number of options available to brides who need to find a wedding dress outwith standard designer lead times. Please get in touch via email and we can discuss your individual requirements.

How do I book my appointment?

Appointments can be booked online here (link to booking system) , via email or by telephone on (01294) 829264 Please reach out to us via email if you are unable to secure your required appointment online or if your wedding date is less than 12 months away.

What should I bring to my appointment?

We provide everything you need for your bridal appointment, including shoes. It’s best to wear nude undies if you can and we politely request that you avoid wearing fake tan to your appointment. We love seeing your bridal inspiration so bring your Pinterest boards and any images of dresses/styles/themes you love. Don’t worry if your unsure where to begin, our bridal consultants are professional experts and trained to help you find your bridal style.

Can I speak to someone before I book my appointment?

Of course! We love bridal chat and are more than happy to answer any questions and discuss your requirements before you visit this salon or book your appointment. I’ve booked my appointment - what next?

How exciting - we can’t wait to meet you and help you find your dream dress ! If you haven’t already we advise creating a Pinterest Board to start saving wedding and bridal looks you love as this can really help as a source of reference during your consultation. When you find your dress a deposit of 50% is required to secure your contract and place your dress order. Coming prepared with a clear idea of how much you plan to spend makes for an enjoyable 'I said yes to the dress' moment that you can share with your loved ones. Perhaps a family member or love one have kindly offered to contribute towards your dress, this is wonderful but can also be a source of tension when it comes to finding and paying for your dress if you haven't fully discussed things beforehand. To avoid any awkwardness it is a good idea to have this conversation before your bridal appointment by discussing brands and styles you are considering and (gently) drawing awareness to their price points.


What prices are the dresses?

Our designer wedding dress collections begin at £3000, with Berta collection gowns priced from approximately £7000. We are transparent about pricing so please do reach out to discuss your requirements and we will be happy to advise and guide you. We also have a limited range of sample gowns available priced from £2500.

How do I pay for my dress?

When you find your dress a deposit of 50% is required to secure your contract and place your dress order. The balance of your gown is then due within 28 days of your dress arriving in store. Alterations and any customisations are priced separately.

What sizes are samples?

Our sample gowns come in a variety of sizes but are mostly 8, 10 and 12s.

What happens if they don’t fit me?

Our consultants are fully trained to fit the sample gowns according to each individual brides requirements. If gowns are too big they will be pinned, we much prefer this method over using bulldog clips as it gives you a more accurate visual representation of how each style will fit your body. If gowns are too small we have ways of discreetly leaving the back open but making them look like they fit.

Who decides which wedding dresses I try?

You choose which gowns you would like to try on. Your Opus consultant will be on hand to advise and suggest gowns using their knowledge, expertise and your personal preferences to help you find the perfect shape, colour and style. If you have seen a particular gown you would like to try on please let us know in advance of your appointment so that we can ensure it is available for you.

How do I know what size I need?

Once you have chosen your dress we will take a full set of body measurements. We understand that not everyone is comfortable with this , please be assured our bridal consultants are skilled professionals and this is essential in order for us to advise which size of gown is correct for you. Once we have taken your measurements we will chat over the designers size chart and agree which size to order.


What happens when my dress arrives in store?

When your wedding dress arrives in store our technical team carefully quality check it then safely store it for you ready for your fitting appointments.

Who carries out my fitting appointments?

Your wedding dress fitting appointments take place at Opus and are carried out by our bridal consultants who are trained pin fitters. Your dress alterations are then carried out by our highly skilled expert technical team. You can of course choose to take your wedding dress to your own preferred seamstress.

When do I have my fitting appointments?

As a general rule we begin your dress fitting appointments 12 weeks before your wedding date. Please allow time for 3 wedding dress fitting appointments as part of your wedding day preparations.

What do I need for my fittings?

Please bring your underwear and bridal shoes to all your fitting appointments.

When do I collect my dress?

We will arrange a collection appointment for you to take place in the week running up to your wedding day. We meticulously steam your wedding dress prior to collection and want it to be as crease free as possible so will ask you to bring a duvet cover to your appointment and make sure you have plenty of room in your car to safely transport it home or to your venue.

I’m having a destination wedding - will you pack my dress for me?

Yes ! All you have to bring is your cabin baggage and we will pack your dress for you in layers of tissue.
